RED BOX——Chengdu Taikoo Li Unattended Customer Service Center

As the first unattended customer service center in Taikoo Li Chengdu, we hope to convey a clear, precise, but non-intrusive image through design, which also fits the service quality presented by the commercial space.

| Background

The project is located on the M level (B1 floor) of Taikoo Li Chengdu, with a site area of only 12.12 ㎡, facing the main street of the shopping area, and adjacent to the restroom corridor. The client needs to set up an unattended customer service center here, which should include screen for display, telephone, and iPad.

| Concept

Modular:

Considering the scale of the project, the design starts with a small modular language, using a reasonable module to control the facade expression, box height, screen size, etc. Under the modular language, the customer service point can not only meet the basic needs but also have the possibility of additional extension and variation through modularization.

Spatial Form:

As a representative of Chengdu's commercial area, the site is surrounded by rich colors and a bustling crowd. The modular boxes form a clean red volume that is embedded in a continuous and complex commercial interface, presenting a clear and tranquil expression. The modular boxes create an open spatial definition, the ceiling is raised suitable for staying. The screen, telephone, and iPad are respectively set on the left wall and the right box.

Extended Functions:

Each modular box serves as a small display stage, capable of showcasing exhibits inside. The exterior features openable frosted resin glass, and the top lighting creates a silhouette effect, allowing for interaction with the commercial environment.

| Design Details

Boxes that float above the ground are designed for standing use. In addition to housing ipad, they can also be extended to accommodate papers, brochures, and other functions. These boxes can rotate to create local spatial variations, presenting both an independent counter form and a continuous interface form.

The screens and telephones are embedded within the wall, divided by partition seams in the same modular unit. The telephone is also custom-designed for this space, with a minimalist and easily recognizable handset form, complemented by an anodized aluminum shell, precisely waiting for the connection. The telephone has no buttons; instead, it features interactive breathig lights on the back panel. When the call is connected, the breathing light remains constant, indicating an active call. After hanging up, the breathing light effect continues, signaling that the device is still in operation.
